What would you do if you didn’t have fear?
I know one of the biggest reasons for delaying myself getting back into fitness was fear.
I clearly remember my first Body Pump class. I struggled to setup the bar, I struggled to lift the weight, and I struggled with my form, whilst other people were getting through the class with ease. I felt lost and confused like I didn’t belong.
At this point I had two simples choices:
1. Avoidance
OR
2. Exposure
Avoidance guarantees that the feared object or situation will remain novel. If you avoid something you experience a sense of failure. Your fear remains the same and the sense of failure can often magnitude the fear – a vicious circle.
Exposure is having to face your fears. Many worthy long-term goals entail short-term discomfort.
To continue I had to realise that that everyone started somewhere, everyone was once in the position I was in. No one came out of the womb with chiseled abs or they would have been a medical marvel!
Throughout our lives we all will experience fear, but by taking small steps we can overcome those fears. That feeling of achieving something you once thought ‘impossible’ is indescribable! By me making that choice to return to that class helped me overcome my fear of feeling physically inadequate and I continued to achieve things I once thought impossible and I am the happiest and strongest both mentally and physically I have ever been!
If you need help with overcoming your fears message me – we have all been there!
